How Does a Uterus Transplant Work, Exactly?

Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic announced late last week that they have performed the first uterus transplant in the U.S. During the nine-hour operation, surgeons took a uterus from a deceased organ donor and placed it into a 26-year-old woman, according to a press release from the clinic. (The woman has not been identified for privacy reasons.) According to the clinic, she is now in stable condition.
